Deadlines
For spring entry (February), we must receive your final application with all supporting documents by October 15, 2023. If you are a citizen of a foreign country, you may apply for fall entry (September) only.
For fall entry (September), we must receive your final application with all supporting documents by March 15, 2024.
Spring ENTRY
- October 15, 2023: Spring semester application deadline
- Mid-November: Applicants for spring semester are notified of admissions decisions
- Mid-December: Deadline for enrollment for admitted spring semester transfer students
Fall ENTRY
- March 15, 2024: Fall semester application deadline
- Early May: Applicants for fall semester are notified of admissions decisions
- Early June: Deadline for enrollment for admitted fall semester transfer students
Evaluations
We require two academic evaluations from college professors or instructors. We recommend that one evaluation be from a math or science instructor.
We find that the best recommendations are written by professors who know an applicant well as both a student and a person. You are also welcome (but not required) to submit two supplemental letters of recommendation from high school teachers, employers, etc.
School Official Report
We also require a School Official Report from your advisor, registrar, or another school official. Applicants are encouraged to use the electronic form built into the MIT transfer application to request the School Official Report.
If a hard copy of the form is required by your current (or most recent) institution, you can download a PDF version of the School Official Report. The school official should submit the completed report to [email protected], by fax to 617.687.9174, or by mail to MIT Admissions.
Transcripts
Transfer applicants are required to upload a copy of their transcripts within the MIT transfer application from each institution they have attended—including all secondary/high schools, colleges, and universities. Official transcripts are only required for transfer students who are admitted and choose to enroll at MIT.
Standardized tests
We require the SAT or the ACT for both first year and transfer applicants. We do not require the ACT writing section or the SAT optional essay. We accept both the paper and digital SAT.
In order to apply for transfer admission, you must take the required tests before October 31 for spring entry, and before March 31 for fall entry.
Superscoring
If a student takes the same test multiple times, we will consider the highest score achieved in each section. We do this in order to consider all applicants in their best light.
Please note that our office will verify scores for all enrolling students. Any discrepancies between official and self-reported scores may affect a student’s offer of admission.
