Q: How many transfers does Dickinson admit?
A: Transfer admission is highly competitive. Although we look for a minimum GPA of 3.0, the majority of those offered admission present very strong records of achievement. The number of transfers selected each year depends upon the space available. The number can vary from year to year. During the past three years, Dickinson has admitted, on the average, 30-40 transfer students per year from an applicant pool of approximately 160-180.
Q: Where do I find the transfer application?
A: When you log in to your Common Application account, you will be delivered to the Dickinson program selection page via this link. This will save you time and effort in searching for the right application form.
Q: Does Dickinson have rolling admissions?
A: No. Applications are reviewed together as a group soon after the application deadline. The application deadline for spring is November 1, and the application deadline for fall is April 1. Note that those applying through our community-college partnerships must file the application by March 1. Since only completed applications (for both admissions and financial aid) are reviewed, it is important to have your application complete by the required deadline.
Q: Is an interview required?
A: While not required, an interview is encouraged. It gives us an opportunity to learn more about you as a person and gives you the chance to learn about all the wonderful opportunities that are available to our students. Virtual interviews are available via Skype, FaceTime or Zoom. Please email us to request an interview.
Q: What is Dickinson’s policy regarding standardized test score submission?
A: Since 1994, Dickinson has employed a test-optional admissions process, although we briefly suspended all standardized-test submission during the COVID-19 pandemic. View our Test-Optional FAQ for additional information.
Q: When will I know of Dickinson's decision?
A: Decision letters are released approximately four to six weeks after the application deadline. For spring admission, this is early to mid-December. For fall admission, this is mid-May. The financial-aid award is enclosed with the letter of admission. You will generally have two to three weeks to accept our admission offer. A $500 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your place.
Q: Is financial aid available to transfer students?
A: Transfer students may apply for need-based financial assistance. The college requires submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Services (CSS PROFILE). The financial-aid application is due by the same deadlines as the admission application. Of special note to spring transfers—to be sure to submit the PROFILE and FAFSA for the current academic year. International transfer applicants are required to submit both the CSS International PROFILE and the Declaration of Finances. These forms can be downloaded from our international admissions Web site. Q: What about merit scholarships for transfer students?
A: Transfer students may be considered for merit scholarships. Scholarships are competitive academic awards with limited availability. Transfer students are not eligible for Tuition Exchange. Applicants through the Community College Partnership Initiative may find additional details here.
Q: How do my previous credits transfer in?
A: The formal credit evaluation occurs after the student has been accepted and deposited. The registrar will provide the credit evaluation upon receipt of the final transcript. Policies related to transfer credit and answers to frequently asked questions are provided on our registrar's Web page.
Sometimes students find it helpful to have information regarding credit evaluation before they apply to the college. In those cases, the admissions staff will provide an unofficial evaluation of your credits. Be sure to ask the transfer coordinator if you have questions about a particular course.
