Applicants for both the M.A. and Ph.D. must demonstrate a B.A. with minimum 3.0 average in a humanities discipline or allied field, or other preparation commensurate with that accomplishment. They must demonstrate a level of English language proficiency adequate for success in graduate level coursework in English. For international applicants whose first language is not English, the Graduate Division requires the TOEFL (the Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
Interdisciplinary Humanities does not require the G.R.E.
Students who wish to apply should contact faculty who could support their studies in advance of their application. Students will not be admitted without explicit support from a faculty member.
In making admissions decisions, we seek to ensure that students can be supported by faculty, and we seek to build an interdisciplinary cohort which can profit not just from the faculty, but from each other.
