Do not recommend. I tried to take a basic math class about 3 months ago, was told to show up for orientation when I did the instructor told me I could technically take the class, that was starting that night. I originally called the week before so no I did not just show up last minute. The class was exactly what I wanted/needed, I was told there was also room in the class, but I should go a different route, after waiting a week to take it. The instructor continued to debate it w me for 30 minutes, before I finally left feeling defeated as if I had been turned away from taking a basic math ged class. There was an algebra 1 class I had intended to take upon completion of the basic class. I was trying to prepare myself to take the placement test, so I could join a particular apprenticeship course that is not offered by bmcc. That apprenticeship only accepts people once a year, in April, and I am now going to miss it this year, because I was turned away when I asked for help.

I would love to leave a review, but when I inquired about adult basic skills math class I was told they offered one, and that I technically could take it, but then proceeded to talk me out of taking the class. It’s 6 months later and I still don’t have the math skills required to pursue the career I want because I don’t have the math skills required to apply. They keep trying to push me to online learning. I guess anyone who doesn’t know basic math is too dumb to know that classes are offered online(eyeroll). I am looking for an in person class w a physical person teaching so I can ask questions. You are supposed to be teachers and working for the good of the community. If you offer the class and have availability within the class (especially if it is a basic skills class) then stop making it difficult for people to enroll.
teachers are lazy. if i refused to do my job i would be fired. they should be too. They should be ashamed of themselves for turning people away who want to learn. telling a person just to go on utube after that person explains to them they prefer in poerson help so they can ask questions and also feel like they would retain the information better in a classroom setting, is just sad and lazy on the teachers part. Telling the perrson that they can "technically" take the class, but they should go on utube is pathetic. Like people dont know the info is on utube before they reached out to the college its not the same. Sometimes people need the extra help, and everytime i start getting frustrated while trtying to teach myself< my outlet will be a scathing review of the college that turned me away. Its not much, but its all i have
