Graduate Admissions

The Department of Plant Pathology offers graduate studies leading to the Master of Science (thesis and nonthesis option) and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. We welcome those that meet our requirements to apply for our program. Admission Requirements

To qualify for the application process you must have the following:

  • A background in plant pathology, biology, agronomy or other life science
  • A faculty member willing to accept and financially support you within his/her research program.
  • International Applicants only: An English language competency exam score matching or higher than the following scores (only one is required)
    • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 550 (paper test); 80 (internet based)
    • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6
    • MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): 77

How to Apply

To apply, you must submit:

  • An online application
  • Statement of purpose
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions via mail
  • CV/Resume
    • Pursuant to Florida Statute, your application requires inclusion of all post-high school education and employment, as well as information about ongoing international affiliations and research funding. Please ensure this information is included on your curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé.

  • International Applicants only: Official TOEFL scores sent via ETS

Note: The Graduate School requires official copies of all transcripts and test scores. The Plant Pathology Department accepts copies of these documents.

Funding

Funding for graduate students is competitive and usually comes in the form of an Assistantship or Fellowship. Usually these are awarded to students intending to begin their programs in the Fall semester. To receive full consideration for funding, the Department strongly encourages applicants to submit their full application materials before December 1 for Fall semester admission or September 1 for Spring semester admission.
