Our Energy Systems Engineering Master’s Program Is at the Forefront of Technologies That Move the World
University of Michigan’s world-class Energy Systems Engineering faculty in Integrative Systems + Design energizes students in the areas of sustainable energy generation, storage, and conversion. We’re socially conscious and responsible, too. We empower students to learn about alternative and conventional energy technologies, the societal and environmental impact of technology developments, and the economic benefits of those developments.
This degree can be completed fully online from almost anywhere in the world, or on-campus here in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Why the ISD Energy Systems Engineering Program?
We are highly flexible, offering personalized plans of study that can allow students to address truly complex challenges. This is accomplished through courses designed by faculty members from across the University of Michigan, including the College of Engineering, the School for Environment and Sustainability, the Ross School of Business, the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Art and Architecture, and the College of Literature Science and Arts.

Master of Engineering in Energy Systems Engineering
This degree is designed for students who are motivated to take on the challenges facing society in the areas of sustainable energy generation, storage, and conversion.
Sequential Undergraduate / Graduate Study (SUGS)
Undergraduate students at the College of Engineering in Ann Arbor have the opportunity to speed their progress towards an ISD Master of Engineering degree through the Sequential Undergraduate/Graduate Study (SUGS) program.
U-M-SJTU Accelerated Master’s Degree Program (AMDP)
Students who receive an undergraduate BSE degree from the U-M – Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Joint Institute (U-M SJTU) can also pursue an Integrative Systems + Design Engineering Master’s degree at U-M through the U-M-SJTU Accelerated Master’s Degree Program (AMDP).
Intersecting Industry Needs Through INCOSE Certification
The Integrative Systems + Design Division offers the opportunity for students to achieve INCOSE certification. This academic equivalency allows U-M graduate engineering students to bypass taking the certification exam to become certified system engineers, a major benefit.
