Class sizes are smaller and the professors actually care about you and want you to succeed. Like in any college there are will some old school teachers that aren’t understanding and very strict on attendance. Almost all of our teachers are not and understand life and things happen to you.
I can’t even explain how much the staff and disability office has helped me. I had almost dropped out because of a course that didn’t care I had lupus/was sick and not there sometimes. My assistant dean and advisor helped me through it so I didn’t make any rash decisions, they knew of her and her old school ways and set me up in a different class. I was freaking out and thinking it was over for me already.
Coming to HVCC and meeting the people here has allowed me to regain my voice and confidence.

I was a student who took the majority of their coursework online... and for a good reason. While professors and staff are generally friendly and amicable, the entire student population was very obviously, and painfully, miserable. It was not an environment I enjoyed surrounding myself with, so I decided to move to an online degree, which worked out perfectly for myself. Hudson Valley is an undeniably great school for those still figuring out what they would like to pursue, or for those who do not have the finances for a 4-year institution, like myself. But because of this, students tend to treat Hudson Valley as an obligatory stepping stone, rather than an institution they should take pride in.
I love this school, but there are definitely some professors that I would avoid, and I recommend checking out Rate My Prof before taking any specific class- that being said, there are some teachers that I absolutely ADORE, who genuinely care so much, and it means so much. The school is not too expensive, and it's connected to SUNY so transferring is not difficult. The only student housing however is College Suites, which are quite expensive, or just renting an apartment nearby.
