Outstanding faculty who are leading their fields, the opportunities you have to conduct research and apply your knowledge to address critical, cross-disciplinary, real-world problems, and specialized career resources are what make our MSE program in applied mathematics and statistics stand out from the rest.

Our wide-ranging academic program has four main areas of focus that reflect our faculty members’ primary strengths and interests:

  • Probability and Statistics
  • Optimization/Operations Research
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Computational Mathematics

The program emphasizes mathematical foundations and their modeling and numerical counterparts while also highlighting their applications to problems in the biomedical sciences, astrophysics, business and analytics, and machine learning.

Students in the program also have the opportunity to participate in research and complete a thesis under the supervision of the department’s faculty member of their choice.
