Funding

Our department provides funding to its students in the form of teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and tuition remission for all students for their first 5 years, contingent on satisfactory performance in the department.

Funding from the Graduate School:

Applicants who check the appropriate box on the application will also be considered for funding from The Graduate School through University Fellowships.  The deadline to apply for University Fellowships is December 15, 2020.

In addition, many of our students receive special fellowships from outside sources, such as the National Science Foundation and the Spencer Foundation.

Traineeships, part-time jobs and other support are also available through the Odum Institute for Research in Social Sciences, the Carolina Population Center, the Institute on Aging, the Sheps Center for Health Services Research, the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center,  and other affiliated institutions:

Since the graduate program requires a full-time commitment from students, the department does not recommend holding non-academic part-time jobs.
