Admission Policy: Master's program /Doctoral program
International Program in Economics at Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo,
began with a Master's program in April, 2010 for English-speaking students. The Doctoral program is open to those
who complete UTIPE Master's program with distinction. International Program in Economics has two purposes:
i) to nurture students as scholars and educators with international perspectives based on advanced analytical skills
in modern economics; ii) to teach students practically and globally useful expertise in economics. Therefore,
students with both English proficiency and an advanced knowledge in mathematics and/or economics are particularly welcome.

As the UTIPE news announced on June 23, 2023, from the student admission for 2025 enrollments,
the Department of Economics is to undertake a further reform by integrating UTIPE
with the General Master’s program. It will recruit both Japanese-speaking and English-speaking students through a newly integrated entrance examination.
Japanese language ability remains unrequired to obtain the degree. The major changes are announced
here.

Doctoral Program
Applicants who are eligible to apply for the UTIPE Doctoral program are limited to those who are expected to complete UTIPE Master's program at Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo and admitted to candidacy for the program.

Scholarship Application for SPRING GX Students who are to pursue the Doctoral Program of
SPRING GX fosters doctoral students advanced human resources to lead Green Transformation (GX) and aims to produce globally competent researchers who will contribute to realizing a GX in all fields on a large scale.
