    All applicants are required to meet the published entry requirements. Alternatively applicants may apply with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Human Resource Management. Successful applicants with a Graduate Certificate qualification or higher in Human Resource Management, Management, Industrial Relations, Employment Relations, or Business Administration may seek reduced course duration by applying for recognition of prior learning.

    Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Bachelor degree; or
    • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.
  • English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
    • Bachelor degree from a country specified on the English Proficiency Bands page;
    • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
    • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
    • Other tests, courses or programs defined on the English Proficiency Bands page.

Important course notes

  • The units in this course may also be delivered via either block delivery or intensive delivery.
    Block delivery involves online delivery of material, coupled with two complete weekends that are separated by a number of weeks. The material delivered via online will occur prior to the first block weekend and between the two weekend blocks of face to face teaching: or
    Intensive delivery will occur over a number of consecutive days (normally five or six) of teaching. The student will be supported through appropriate online support such as pre-reading and an initial activity.

  • BUS6900 Management Practicum unit allows students to develop a practical appreciation of their
    field of study through integrating the material covered in the discipline course and applying their knowledge and skills to unstructured, authentic problems in work settings. Host organisations will be secured through the Work Placement Coordinator, or as a result of pre-approved networking and contacts developed by the student.

    Attendance requirements

    Students must complete between 100 and 150 hours in an approved work environment within a
    public, private or non-profit organisation. This work will occur in a workplace, or wherever appropriate to fulfil the needs of the defined program of work.

    Clearances and/or Risk Management Protocols Required

    Students will be advised of the necessary clearances during the application process. Student
    visas do allow for full-time paid employment, as long as this is part of a formal, academic learning program.
    The management of risk is addressed in the induction process on-campus and by the host organisation.

    Professional practice rules

    Enrolled students will be issued with a guide which outlines the expected code of conduct and
    responsibilities.

  1. Apply critical thinking and technical skills to solve authentic human resource management problems.
  2. Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills.
  3. Demonstrate mastery of a global body of human resource management knowledge and practice, including knowledge of research principles and methods.
  4. Independently initiate, plan and execute a substantial project to meet agreed deliverables.
  5. Justify decisions and judgements that address a complex human resource management issue considering the ethical and social consequences.

All graduates of the Masters qualification who meet the requisite work experience requirements will be eligible for direct entry into the Unit 4 Capstone: Applied Project in Organisational Capability of the AHRI Practising Certification (APC) Program. Completion of the Capstone project will award AHRI certification, CPHR.

I didn't think twice when deciding where to complete my master's degree.

The Master of Human Resource Management course encompasses accounting, finance, and economics, which are valuable skills for HR professionals. Another great benefit of the course is that it's available part-time, and classes are in the evening, so I can still work full-time.

Quick guide to uni-speak

    • The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the national regulator of qualifications in the Australian education and training system. The AQF defines the essential characteristics, including the required learning outcomes, of the different types of qualifications issued across the higher education systems in Australia.

    • ATAR is the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank, the primary criterion for entry into most undergraduate university courses in Australia. The ATAR is a percentile score which denotes a student's ranking relative to their state-wide peers upon completion of their secondary education.

    • CRICOS is the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students. A CRICOS code is allocated to education institutions (like ECU) who are approved to recruit, enrol and deliver education to overseas students. Courses with a CRICOS code are available to international students who meet the entry requirements.

    • A major, or unit set, is your chosen area of in-depth study in an undergraduate course. It usually involves 8 units of study, or one-third of the units in a 3-year degree. Talk to your Student Information Office if you need help choosing a major subject.

    • Minors include between 4 and 6 study units in a specific discipline. Not all courses require you to complete a minor. Your minor subject doesn't appear on your printed degree (parchment), but is part of your academic transcript.
