The student body of the School of Marine Science comprises a diverse group of individuals from all over the globe who seek an interdisciplinary graduate program in marine science.

Most of our current students are pursuing graduate studies in the Department of Fisheries Science (40%) and the Department of Biological Sciences (35%), with the remainder pursuing studies in either the Department of Physical Sciences or the Department of Aquatic Health Sciences.

Annually the total student body ranges from 100 - 125 students, of which approximately half are women. Currently, approximately 80% of SMS graduate students are from the United States and Puerto Rico. International students constitute another 15 - 20% of the enrollment, representing Australia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, and Uruguay. Students are approximately equally divided between M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
