Application Checklist for Transfers

 Transfer applicants can apply online using the Common Application (to find our program, search for "William & Mary" with the ampersand symbol). The Transfer Common Application and $75 application fee may be submitted online.  Please note we offer a variety of Application Fee Waivers for eligible students.

October 1, 2024, is the deadline to submit the Common Application for Transfer online for potential spring 2025 admission.

March 1, 2024, is the deadline to submit the Common Application for Transfer online for potential fall 2024 admission.

Upon receipt of an application, Transfer applicants will receive an email from us providing them with credentials to access our Application Status Portal

Waitlisted transfer students should contact the Transfer Dean with updated transcripts reflecting spring semester grades (if applicable), and submit the continued interest form June 15

Additional application requirements (please note that your application will not be reviewed until each of these items has been received):
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (we welcome electronic submissions from Parchment or similar services). If using Parchment, please select William & Mary > "Undergraduate Admission" as the recipient.
  • Official high school transcript and if applicable, GED certificate. Transcripts must be submitted regardless of how long you have been out of high school. If you earned a GED certificate, you must still submit a High School Transcript.
International Transfer Applicants:

We welcome applications from international students who want to transfer to William & Mary. Read additional information about the international student transfer process.  In addition to completing the requirements mentioned above for transfer students, international transfer students must also complete special forms for international students.

Optional application materials:
  • If you are a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia and are seeking in-state tuition privileges, you must complete the questions pertaining to In-State Tuition on the Common Application which will be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar.
  • We are test-optional. However, you may submit SAT/ACT scores. TOEFL, DuoLingo, or IELTS scores are strongly recommended for international and non-native English Speakers. 
  • If you wish to apply as a Part-time (Flexible Degree Track status) student, be sure to select the option within the Common App and you will be prompted to provide a brief explanation as to why part-time status is requested. Please note this option is limited to students who currently live within 30 miles of campus and have approved reasoning.
Recommended Courses:

William & Mary recommends that students interested in transferring to the university take challenging courses in the liberal arts and sciences. Check our list of recommended courses to be sure you're on the right track. Typically, our most competitive transfer applicants have a GPA of 3.5 or higher at their current institution and have taken rigorous transfer-oriented coursework in the past year.
