The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid establishes a cost of attendance (COA) budget for students to help us determine the total amount of aid for which you are eligible. This budget includes tuition and fees, as well as allowances for living expenses, books and supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. You may receive financial aid up to your total COA budget. Adjustments will be required if the total of all your scholarships, grants and student loans exceed the budgeted amount. There are some situations when we may be able to increase your COA budget for education-related expenses so that you will be able to borrow student loan money to cover the cost. We may increase your COA budget to include the purchase of a computer and peripherals (a one-time adjustment during your law school career), to provide for childcare expenses, or to accommodate excessive medical expenses.

Additional Cost of Attendance Adjustment for Professional Licensure Expenses

Students in their final year of attendance will have their Cost of Attendance adjusted to include the expected cost of North Carolina Bar registration and fees. For 2024-2025, this is a $975 estimate. The amount can be adjusted if a student decides to sit for the Bar in another jurisdiction.

Student Aid Refunds

After all current student charges have been satisfied by aid, any remaining credit balance will be refunded directly to the student.

Direct Deposit: The fastest method of refund is through direct deposit. Select eRefund in Pay Bills/Manage Student Finances in ConnectCarolina to enroll.

School Withdrawal

Students who officially withdraw from the University within nine weeks from the start of the term may receive a prorated refund of the tuition and fees paid that semester. View Important Dates at Student Accounts for the withdrawal schedule.

Impact on Aid: If the student is an aid recipient, we may be required to return all or part of their student loans and any scholarships when they officially withdraw.
