Applying to the Civil and Environmental Engineering department for a Bachelor's or a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering is a simple process. This page will walk you through the process to apply either as an international undergraduate or a international graduate student. Admission Steps for International Undergraduate Students

Applying to the undergraduate degree (Bachelors Degree) program in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department is a simple 2-step process.

Step 1. Apply online at Cal State Apply and pay the application fee of $55 with credit card.
Step 2. Send the following documents to:

  • An official transcript from your high school along with a copy of your degree certificate.
  • A copy of TOEFL (or) IELTS score report (if your native language is not English).
  • An International Student Financial Statement and AffidavitPDF File accompanied by a bank statement from your sponsor showing the minimum amount.

Additional Information for International Undergraduate Students

  • You need to submit the transcripts from your high school along with your degree certificate.
  • The minimum TOEFL score required is 61 Internet Based TOEFL (IBT), 173 Computer Based TOEFL (CBT) or 500 Paper Based TOEFL (PBT). You need to send the official TOEFL score directly from ETS to the university. The four digit institution code is 4589. Also send a copy of the score report you received to Jessica.
  • We also accept IELTS score, in which case the minimum score is 6.5
  • Students who attended high school outside the US need not submit SAT or ACT scores.
  • International students need to pay Non-Resident Tuition in addition to fees. The current fee and Non-Resident Tuition amounts are available at the Student Financial ServicesOpens in new window website. On this website, select “Fee Information” on the left and then “Registration Fees” or “Non-Resident Tuition.”
  • To inquire about your application status, email ECS Admissions at ecsgrad@fullerton.edu. The phone number is (657) 278 7786. In your email, include distinctly your last name, first name, CWID (campus wide ID number) and the program to which you applied.

Applying to the graduate degree program (Master of Science) in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department is a simple 2-step process.

Step 1. Apply online at Cal State Apply and pay the application fee of $55 with credit card.
Step 2. Send the following documents to

  • An official transcript and degree certificate from each university or college you have attended after high school. A copy of your Bachelors degree is also required to evaluate your application.
  • A copy of TOEFL (or) IELTS score report (if your native language is not English).

Additional Information for International Graduate Students

  • You need to submit the transcripts or mark sheets of all eight semesters (i.e., 4 years of Bachelors degree) along with your degree certificate.
  • The minimum TOEFL score required is 80 Internet Based TOEFL (IBT) or 550 Paper Based TOEFL (PBT). You need to send the official TOEFL score directly from ETS to the university. The four digit institution code is 4589.
  • We also accept IELTS score, in which case the minimum score is 6.5
  • The department does not need GRE score for admission. We feel that the GRE exam does not reflect the potential of the student. Hence our evaluation is based on your transcripts.
  • Unfortunately the department is not able to offer Research or Teaching Assistantships. Students are allowed to work 20 hrs/week on the campus. Potential students can correspond with the faculty to check if they have any funding opportunities.
  • International students need to pay Non-Resident Tuition in addition to fees.   • In order to meet the  minimum requirements  for admission, you must have completed a four-year college course of study and hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended, and have attained a minimum/cumulative grade point average of 2.50 (4 point system) from your coursework.
  • We encourage students from non-civil engineering backgrounds to apply to our graduate program. Over the last few years, we have admitted many students who hold Bachelors degrees in Business, Chemistry, Computer Science and other non-engineering majors.   • Our graduate program is a minimum 30 unit program (typically 10 courses) and many classes meet once a week from 7 PM-9:45PM. In addition to completing the 10 courses, the student has to pass the English writing proficiency examOpens in new window which is conducted by the university. In some cases a project or a thesis work can be done (with departmental approval) instead of specific course work.
